In the Word

Made Alive in Christ
Ephesians 2:1-10

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,  in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Intro to Workplace Giving

by Holly Syreen, Workplace Giving Coordinator

From August through December, I will be seeking volunteers to represent MAF at events across the country. These events will focus on federal and state employees who have the opportunity to donate to MAF through payroll deductions. The main campaign represented at these events is the Combined Federal Campaign for federal employees, which you can learn more about here: https://www.opm.gov/combined-federal-campaign/

Typically, these events are held at a federal agency’s building, and attendance numbers can reach several hundred employees. Events occur during the work week, from late morning into early afternoon.

Each time I receive an invitation for MAF to attend an event, I will reach out to any advocates who are within a three-hour driving distance of the event. If you are able and willing to represent MAF at the event with a display table, I will send you all the materials and cover your travel expenses.

If you have any questions, or if you are already connected with a local campaign coordinator and have some ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact me at cfc@maf.org or 208-498-0771.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for those invites! Workplace Giving is so grateful for the partnership of the Advocate Wing—you make it possible for MAF to take advantage of this great revenue source.

Newest Advocates!

Let’s give a big MAF welcome to our newest Advocates
Chris Dunlap & David Walkiewicz!

David Walkiewicz lives in Strongsville, OH with his wife, Stephanie and their 3 children. David is a captain and Line Check Pilot (Instructor Pilot) for ExpressJet Airlines. David is very active in his church and when he finds some spare time, he prefers to spend it with his wife and kids and also going camping. David is a Certified Flight Instructor for Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Multi-engine students. He was also selected for the Pilot Mentor committee with the Airline Pilot’s Association.

David’s journey to MAF began several years ago when he was handed a pamphlet about Nate Saint while in Savannah, GA. He read the pamphlet when he returned to his hotel and began investigating Nate and MAF!

Chris Dunlap is the Program Director for the University of Tennessee – Nashville Family Medicine Residency Program.  He and his wife April have 4 children: Davis (15), Nate (13), Dean (8), and Jenna (6).  They live in Murfreesboro, TN and enjoy camping and indoor rock climbing at the local rock gym.  Chris is pursuing a private pilot license in his spare time and has had a passion for mission aviation since he was young.

We thank God for bringing Chris and David to the Advocate Wing!

EAA AirVenture: Oshkosh, WI

by Linda Walker, Events Coordinator

EAA AirVenture, aka Oshkosh was a little bit HOT and a little bit rainy but overall a lot of fun!! MAF was represented at AirVenture with the Kodiak airplane and our big tent that housed a flight simulator, video of the new Take Offs and Landings, and friendly people to chat with.  We had 1497 people stop at the airplane and 1058 come inside the tent.  We gave away over 1300 screen cleaners with a reminder to “look us up online”.

Advocate Travis Fergurson joined the team for a few days as did Regional Manager Greg Pyles and Ministry Awareness Director Mike Snodgrass.  Several other Advocates stopped by to say hello.

In the Word

The Vine and the Branches
John 15:1-17

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other.
